Got something going on with an elephant hidden inside!
Posted by proosen on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 12:26 AM

Greetings from a warm Sweden!

I've managed to sneak this build in between fixing the windows at the summer house. The plan is to give it some kind of supercharging, probably a centrifugal compressor. I have to scratch build that one and I'm not sure I'm up to that. Not that it would be very hard to do but projects like that seems to stall my progress and I rather finish it than having it half way through in the storage.

If nothing else comes to my mind it'll get a black and white interior in some kind of original style.

The suspension is lowered a bit and the wheel combo are from Aoshima, don't know the name of them as they where given to me by a friend.

The paint still needs the clear coats, but that has to wait for a couple of weeks so the green is fully cured. It's Tamiya's Lime Green Pearl directly from the spray can on their white primer.

Well, enough talking.....on to the pictures

Thank's!

I've used this particular colour on two cars now and it goes on very well without any hazzle.

On both account I've used the white primer as a base coat and justed misted on 2 or 3 layers with about 15-20 minutes between the coats.

After that some sanding to get rid of dust and speckles before a couple of heavier coats with no intention to get a shine as I'm about to clear coat it anyway.

So, all in all. A very nice colour to work with.

Here's a link to the other green machine, a tad smaller than the Charger but I think they will make a nice couple.

Well, things aren't moving very fast due to the hot days and other things to do.
Anyway, here's what happend since the last time.
got some painting started on the interior, black/white as I thought of from the beginning. Clear coated the body and got some flat black on the hood and scoop.

I also started to build the centrifugal compressor and managed to almost get the gear casing ready, some small bits to fix and that part is ready.
Had some problems with the material on the compressor so I'll have to take a trip to the LHS and see what he has on the shelf for me.
I also have some problems making room for this outfit but hopefully I'll sort that out. Otherwise there will "only" be a stock HEMI under the hood.
This is what 27 pieces of plastic looks like at the moment when you're up close.

Have a nice summer!

So, things are slowly moving along.
Got some chrome on the body and managed to create some more work as you'll see later.

It's funny to see how the paint changes from different angles and light conditions.

Here you can all see what I was talking about above...sigh!
Slipped with the knife while I was working with the BMF

Maybe if I fill it in with some rust colour and call it a battle scar:lol:
Well, we'll see what I can do with it. Hopefully it's going to work out with some primer and paint to fill up the void I made.

If that wasn't enough I also sanded/polished through the paint work beside the trunk lid so I have to fix that also.

I've built a centrifugal supercharger but there is no chance that the compressor will fit under the hood without extensive surgery and that's something I don't want to do on a painted body shell. So it'll come in handy in a GTX I have in the pile waiting for a brake fluid bath before a new launch.

Maybe, if the time is on my side I will put in some kind of EFI instead and that's not bad either I think.

So that's all for now folks!

It's still alive slowly crawling towards the finishing line.
Brakes are on and the red line on the rims.

Scale Auto Style brakes, as a gift from a friend. Thank's again mate.

...and at the rear too.

Cheers!

The fun stuff has started!
Engine details, still some things missing, but they'll get there.
Then it's "just" the interior left to do before tidying all up, hopefully in time for the upcoming contest/exibition in two weeks.

Sorry to hear about the knife accident Niclas, those things really makes you want to cry don't they? When you're finishing off and makes a stupid mistake. Well, I hope you'll fix it. progress looks dandy so far and engine bay is great!

If you know anyone who has AMT's Studebaker Avanti on their shelf, it has two Paxton centrifugal superchargers in the box. They could give you one and still have the other which is enough to build a stock Avanti. I put one those on the nascar hemi from Lindberg's Richard Petty kit and it made a very neat installation. I did have to relocate the battery to make room for it however.
