Scratch Built Car trailer! 1:25 scale!
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, July 21, 2006 7:23 PM

I resently tried to scratch build a 1:25 scale Car Trailer with Cowl and Tool & Tire storage. I got it togetther and painted. it looked great I had it hooked up to a Ford F159 and i was impressed! I sat a 68 mustang on it and it fell apart. As if it had never been glued at all!

The Product I used is called evergreen grey I beam and U channel! I used super glue on it. I wish I could find something to hold this together!

Mustang_Crazy:

The problem you encountered is one I found under similar circumstances. The I beam and U channel you used is a PVC product and requires stronger glue to bond it together. The unfortunate part is you will have to strip the paint and re-glue everything again. You can use an Oven Cleaner spray and a toothbrush to strip the paint and begin re-gluing once you have cleaned and dried all the pieces.

Or

You could go back to the hobby shop and buy Styrene I beam and U channel. It is white in colour and comes in the same dimensions and thickness as the PVC type. This is what I had to do after a project I built "imploded".

Live and learn.

Sorry I don't have better news for you.

Cheers;

Gregory

I know that your post has been on a while, but read it any way. If you haven't re-built the trailer or built another one from styrene and want to re-build the first one. Go to Home Depot or a plumbing supply store and get a can of PVC Cement and cleaner. It is used to assemble mist systems and other types of plastic plumbing.

Hope this might help.
