Back to The Future Delorean
Posted by Batmania1966 on Wednesday, August 9, 2006 10:09 AM

Just finished up my Polar Lights Snap-Tite Delorean last night...This is the first kit i have built since i returned to the hobby....Its been about 7 or 8 years.. The kit left alot to be desired... So all of the kit hoses and wires were replaced with scratchbuilt hoses and wiring... The wires that go around the wheel wells were left alone due to the plated body... Just didnt want to go through the trouble of grinding them off for a snap kit... I scratch built the receptacle that the lightning pole goes into with sheet styrene, the kit one was just too bulky...Many details were added to the interior, but cant really be seen...lol... Overall it was a fun build... Sorry the pics are so big....

Oh wow, that's one nice detail job!  What did you use for those coils and the...ZIPTIES?!!  Nice display shelves.  I spy lambos and are those LOTS of other dmcs??

I had been holding off on that kit since it just looked toyish compared to the aoshima one, but then the later is way more expensive.

-=Ryan=- Too many kits... so little free time. MadDocWorks

Wow, you did an amazing job.  It's a very interesting vehicle.  How did you achieved the brushed texture of stainless steel?
No matter where you go ....... there you are.

Thanks for all the compliments! The coils and hoses were made by wrapping fine silver wire around a larger gauge insulated wire.. The same process was used for all the flex hoses... The zipties are just pieces of white sprue heated up over a flame, then stretched really fine. Then tied around a bundle of wires... looks pretty convincing...

Yeah, i am a huge Delorean fan, I have a couple of die-casts and the aoshima kits which are in the works... True, the aoshima kits are really pricey, but worth it...

the stainless finish is actually the chromed body that came in the kit. I just sprayed a few coats of Testors lusterous flat over it, and it looks great....
