Well I finaly got to sanding the primer down and put a fresh coat of flatblack ( seems to show the imperfections better ) since the Camaro is going to black anyway. Oh WoW I have ALOT more sanding to do LOL. Engine and chassis is almost done, the detail on the interier is driving me nutz but I was 1/2way there to begin with. I got permission from my Boss err Wife to use the Digital Camera when it is done so I can post pic's.

Thanks for the quick replys & Wlecome's,

Yes I will post a pic of the finished Camaro when I get to that stage. As far as the primer I am using, it is Model Master  Primer #50137. The body is finaly dry after 3 days .. WI has been cold lately hope I can make more progress on this model soon. Unfortunately I think my  single action airbrush took a dump. I am purchasing a new one off of Ebay ( real cheap just like me LOL ) hope that it works better then my sputtering ( with airbrush thinner ) PoS.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] Guido, glad to hear you are back in the hobby and your sons are involved too.

As for driving the wife nuts... good for you and go for it.
They drive us nuts every chance they get.  LOL

As far as your primer still being tacky after 24 hours, you might have used the impoper thinning agent and/or too much for the paint to handle properly.

What type of paint did you use?

For priming purposes I still use a spray can. I use such primers as Krylon paint (amoung others) as found in department stores.

Leaving it too dry in a warm area is about the only thing you can do now except strip it down.

Ditto on the answer posted above. Temperature will have an effect on dry time.

Sometimes if is a little cool or not if you have one of those overhead adjustable lights. You can place the lamp close to the part that is painted so the heat from the lightbulb can help with cutting the dry time down. If you don't have one you can place the parts under a regular table lamp and use the heat from that as well..

Hope this helps

Guido Sign - Welcome [#welcome] back to the Hobby (I hope you have plenty of display space, if your sons start building aswel....)

I think the first question is...what kind of paint did you use, enamel / oil or acrylic based? I know enamel / oil can take ages, especially when it is relativly cold (for example in my attick that has no heating in winter it can be cold)

Please post pictures of the final result please

PS: there is a forum "painting / airbrushing", if you use the search option this forum you maybe able to find your answers.

Hey All,

I recently came back to building models after a 10 year layoff, As such I am working on the Revell 69 Z/28 Camaro RS. Like I remember I washed all the parts and so on, I grabbed the body put it up on my coat hanger and sprayed the 1st coat of primer ( 2 days ago ). I made sure that the paint was A, still good B, thinned enough ( consistancy of milk ) and it is still tacky about 48 hours later. Is that normal? Am I doing something wrong.

Part I love about getting back into model building is my 2 sons are now doing it age 6 and 8. My 8 year old picked up a Corvette and the younger one picked up a Mustang. My poor wife is going to go nutz all them fumes when painting.

Prethx for the advice and info,

Guido.
