Both Monogram and AMT issued 1991 ZR1 coupes (with the wider body and Lotus-designed LT5 DOHC engine), and standard convertibles with the stock L98 engine.  The Monogram kits are much superior to the AMT offerings.

If you want to build a '91 ZR1 coupe or a convertible, you're all set.  Lots of those kits on Ebay.  If you want to build an accurate 1991 standard coupe it gets a bit more complicated; you'll need to kitbash a Monogram 1985 coupe with a 1991 convertible:

  • Use the narrow coupe body from the '85 kit, but cut off the rear concave bumper. Cut the convex rear bumper from the '91 convertible and glue it onto the '85 body. (not as hard as it sounds - all straight cuts following the actual panel lines on the car).
  • Use the lower front bumper from the 91 convertible.
  • Modify the rub strips on the '85 coupe doors and rear quarter to the rounded body-colored type used on the '91.
  • Use the newer "cockpit" style interior from the convertible.
  • Use the L98 engine from the '85 kit.
  • Use the radiator assembly from the '91 (it is the newer "laid-back" design introduced in 1990); you'll have to modify the radiator hoses to fit the engine.
  • Use the wheels and tires from the 91 convertible.

I'm sure I've missed some smaller details, but that's the major stuff.

Good luck,

Mark

thanks alot Mark for your info on the 91 vette build.i have no experience with model cars as i mostly build 1/35 armour and figures.I own a real 91 vette in perfect shape and during the summer i put it in car shows and i see alot of other guys have models of there cars that they display with there car.so i'm going to try and build one of mine.besides the things you have already told me i will have to find some 2001 corvette rims as i didnt like the 91 stock rims.i put some 2001 corvette rims on it and i think it looks better with them on it.well thanks again and i'll post some pic's of it when i'm done.
