Scale models of construction equipment
Posted by Old Pappy on Friday, April 27, 2007 11:01 AM
An inquiry from a friend in the construction biz prompted me to look for a source for scale model kits of construction equipment- front end loaders, dozers, cranes, forklifts, etc.  Except for a 1/24 hauler and some incredibly expensive ($150!) 1/35 resin forklifts from Mig, I have found virtually nothing.  The 1/50 die-cast Cat toys are not really what I'm looking for.  Googling with "construction," "scale," and/or "model" as keywords returns eleventy-thousand hits, but nothing on scale models kits, except for the die-cast stuff.  Anyone have any sources to pass on?

First gear makes some 1/25 diecast stuff, nice but a little expensive ($100-ish).

Other than AMT not much out there in plastic. The AMT dozer is a pretty nice kit of a 60's Cat D8H. They made some farm equipment too but that is rare and expensive when you can find it.

Unfortunately the only scale I've ever seen actual kits of construction, agricultural or emergency vehicles in consistantly is 1/87 scale as accessories to HO scale model railroading.

Usually when I see them ,they are rather expensive and limited run affairs.

The German outfit, Kibri, seems to have a wide range if you are interested in the scale and the prices are reachable for you:

Well, those are certainly more sources than I've been able to find on my own.  Maybe I need better keyword skills!  Thanks, all!
