Question for anyone who knows how to........

Perhaps you should check out the selection of carbon decals offered by Scale Motorsport:

They come in sheets that you can cut to fit whatever your want "carbonized."

As weird as it sounds, I've heard of a couple guys stealing/borrowing their girl's nylons and spraying a mist of light grey through them.  This is after the part is painted a semi-gloss base coat.  Never tried it, but some of the results look good.  Check over at the MotoGP GB, some guys there have done it.

Gauze might work? I've tried it with window screen material, somewhat convincing yet I think something with a closer mesh patteren for the 1/20-1/24 scale would look better? Maybe the brass(?) filter from one of those coffee makers would work? Carbon/graphite over semi-black is what I used.  HTH

What you need to do is actually paint the item in the highlight colour of the c/f or c/k 1st i.e. if it's the standard black/silver c/f, paint with metallic grey; for c/k, then paint a gold/bronzey colour. When dry, stretch a piece of fine gauze/netting or what-have-you over the part & paint the black bit. Check out a haberdashery store - there's some really nifty bits to be found in those stores to help us modellers.

I agree with Shaun.

Most places say to paint it in black, then do the interweaving colour through whatever you choose. Have also found the when spraying through the gauze/1:24 car spare mesh/stockings the 2nd colour comes through much more pronounced and becomes the prominent colour, other than expected initially. Therefore doing the grey first works for me.

 Wow thanks guys! Shaun I'll try that first, it sounds like a way better way to do this technique. As for J-Hulk, I'll check the website out but before I buy anything I'm more than likely going to try this technique out. Thanks for the link.

Quite convincing already before clear coating it I think.

Hi!

The veil I used is made of some kind of soft plastic, much like what is supplied in Tamiyas car kits. You can get it where they sell fabrics. The link in the answer above very much gives you the answer on what to get and do get different one's to experiment with.

What worked for me maybe is totally wrong for you.
