How about an Indy car?

OK folks the post said post your Grand Prix models and that's what I have a Grand Prix...Pontiac that is ! 

I built this model in 1990 while waiting for my GP to come from the Factory...as a matter of fact the only car I've ever ordered from the factory.  The model's age shows 'cause it's dusty and been broken and fixed and broken again (sorry about that ).  This model - like the 1:1 car - went from the East coast (CT) to the West Coast (WA) and back to the East Coast (ME) in it's lifetime.  Unfortunately, I totaled the 1:1 car in an ice storm in 2004 with 140,000 miles.  The damage wasn't that bad but the Insurance company wouldn't pay for the repair (They said take $1,400 or nothing - Insurance Companies!) Before they took my baby to the wreckers though , I pried the Pontiac emblem off the nose!

I loved building this kit...I just wish I could find another one so I can try it with 17 more years of modeling skills and an airbrush.  This whole model was done with a spray can and brush.

So, I know it's not a glitsy race car with fancy AM or PE or anything except my TLC for my Pontiac...RIP !

Have much the same tale to tell on my 1:12 Lotus... Also in the early 90's, mine was completely destroyed when the room was cleaned. Completely beyond repair. Fortunately got hold of a 1:20 one recently and will most likely do that more justice than the easier-to-build bigger scale one, since my skills back then were very basic!

F1Champ, that must have been painfull to do that CF decalling... Well done!

I had that one in 1/12, about 15 years ago or something like that.  Sadly enough, the dog ate it one day.

At that time, we had a huge Grate Dane, whom was more than tall enough to reach everything on the cupboard, and one day, it must have been realy bored and decided to play with my Lotus

Good luck with the Villeneuve car.  I'm building it now, and it's not a very good kit.  Lots of sanding and finishing required.  BIG gap between the two halves of the transmission case.  Lots and lots of injector pin marks everywhere.  Obviously very old, very poor molds.  I'll post it when it's done.

In the meantime, here's one I built several years ago - an Alain Prost Renault, built straight from the box from a Tamiya kit IIRC.  Looking at the pics, I realize I never did get around to putting the seatbelts in.

This one is 1/20 and is also available in 1/12 (if you can find one) - nearly had the men in white coats coming to get me after doing all those lining decals!!!

Curves... Well Bret, I usually chicken out and use decals! I have a personal preference for SMS CF decals. Absolutely love the stuff. A lot of people complain about it. Also heard that Crazy Modeler makes good CF sheets, I will give those a try in future as well.

The thing about the SMS decals are that the are very soft and goes absolutely ballistic with micro sol. I mean, they completely shrivel up - which is when not to even contemplate looking hard at them,  let alone touch them in panic! When left alone then, they smooth out incredibly well.

What are you working on? 

Sweet pictures and models guys! Im currently stuck on how you guys got the CF look. Ive got some mesh thats great to use and is in right scale but I can't seem to get it to stay in place on the curves. Ive tried hairsprey but it didn't work to well. Any ideas? Looks great guys.

Stunning builds, Mario! But then, what else have we come to expect from you!

Here's two pics of my only surviving GP model I've built. (Only PB pics I have, must have better pics somewhere...) Having moved (sad tale) and afterwards had my 1:43 MP4/4, plus Revell Sauber and Jordan creamed by my sister-in-law's kid, then my CF decals then lifting up on my 1:12 Ferrari 641/2.

Sorry, not my favourite driver, but I liked the colourscheme! 

Have to add, I am currently working on an MP4/2 and a FW24 to start get more  F1's back...
