Looking for some kits
Posted by Grymm on Saturday, August 4, 2007 4:05 PM

My boys want me to build some car models for them (I'm mostly a period ship modellor, but what the hey), but I'm having a hard time finding kits of them.

The first, to me, is sort of a "duh" for models.  A 1967 Mustang GT500.  But, it has to be Eleanor.  That's right, of "Gone in 60 Seconds" fame.  There's a huge poster of it on my boy's wall and he'd love a model.  I wish I could find it in 1/12, but of course, wish in one hand and **** in the other....1/24 will do.

The second is also a kind of duh.  While there are "tuner" kits out there (Aoshimi makes some nice ones), I have yet to find any real hardcore tuner kits that go all out.  By this I mean lowered, 19 inch wheels, body kits, wide body kits....just all out custom tuners.  I've found some for the Skyline and a few others, but nothing really wild, especially for cars like the 350Z, Honda Civic....you get my drift...

Does anyone know if these kinds of kits are even made and where I can find them.  I've been all over the web and Aoshimi is the only one that comes close.

And I don't see why someone hasn't created a kit for Eleanor.  I believe it would sell like crazy, especially in a large scale...

Thanks for the help.

Normally I'm not much into car modelling myself either. However I'm pretty sure that I have seen resin tuning parts somewhere on the internet before, unfortunately I don't have a name of those kits.

You might get more usefull info on the sister-site of fsm, namely http://www.scaleautomag.com  where there seem to be a lot more people in the model tuning scene.

Most of the guys over there custom build the body kits.  I do alot of car models.  Checkout briansmodelcars.com and do a search for the scale wiki website.  Both have great tutorials.  Scale Wiki has more stuff on tuner type applications though.  Lots for scratchbuilding.  If I can follow them, then anyone can.  I'm horrid at scratchbuilding.  I just don't have the eye for it.

P.S. I can't remember who makes them, but there is a company out there that makes some resin body kits for a few of the kits.  However scratchbuilding one really isn't too difficult, I've done it.  Also search the scale auto tuner forum for tutorials, ro ask for them on the body kit making.  There are some good ones, that make you go DOH!  They can also point you in the right direction of other tutorials on the net.

*EDIT*  Heh, scalewiki.com good stuff there.  Turn almost anything into a wild tuner with that stuff.
