Yeah music wire paiano wire same thign different name.  I think one is a trademark and the other is a generic name.  Good deal you got it taken care of.  LHS also has selection, and will probably hav the kit you need when you need it, instead of waiting and hoping it shows up on ebay and hoping it is in the conditino you want at the prie you want.  IF peopel stop buying kits at the LHS then the LHS will close and you will have to purchase aftermarket stuff blindly.  I do buy through the mail some, but more often through the LHS.

I have been recently getting reacquainted with my LHS, with great success. I have been in twice in the last couple of months, after having not visited in a few years, and found what I needed both times, and then some....this latest visit being piano wire, which will do the trick for my metal axles. The last time I got great advice on prepping the resin body for a 68 Plymouth Sport Fury (fastback) that will be converted to the VIP version of this car. Good knowledge and helpful service has turned browsing into sales.

He can't really compete on plastic model prices (vs. Ebay) but he had an extremely good selection of kits. His prices were not out of line with shops in bigger centers, and he would get the impulse sale, I guess, from the person needing a particular kit right now. His accessory business is where he has been getting my dollars (piano wire, paint, bare metal foil, sheet plastic, putty,  etc., all bought in the past few months) .

No it is a material supplier that does the brass sheets you can get at the LHS. The more I think of it it is K&S not K&B (They used to fix my VW Golf!)

Yes I would say it is Music wire which is a heavy gauge wire.

Music wire.  A little difficult to cut, but thats all the metal axles are in the kits is music wire.  It's high tensile steel.  You should be able to pickup a 3-4 foot length for about 80 cents or so.  LSH should have it, try model train shops as well.  Most of them also have a wealth of scratchbuilding supplies, and usually much more then your standard LHS.

yes, speaking of the axles...is that a hardware or electrical supply store you are referring to?

Are you talking about the plain heavy wire axles? I have some old heavy gauge wire stock I use to replace axles missing in kits. I think I bought it from K&B in Chicago a very long time ago. Seems I am always getting a kit minus an axle. I just cut off a piece of wire with a dremel cut off wheel.
