Actually the car was pretty quiet. Seems like it was about as loud as a vacume cleaner outdoors if not a little quieter (remember this was 1962, I think). Also at idle the car was very quiet; you almost couldn't hear it run. The only noise was during acceleration. Thinking back I'm not sure I could even feel it shift gears. How fast it went I can't really say as we only got up to about 35 mph for the three and a half mile drive. Yes it was similar in feel to a normal car of that period, but did accelerate extremely smooth (like it didn't shift gears). It was nothing like a trip in a max wedge car if that matters (now that was a beast in it's day).

when I was kid in high school I used to hitch hike to and from school. I always seemed to be picked up by three or four different drivers almost everytime. One day one of the men that often gave me a ride showed up in the turbine car. Funny thing is that the one single thing I remember most about that car was the interior layout. Lots of die cast aluminum, and a round console between the seats that went all they to the back seats. The car was very quiet inside and out.
