Tarantula Dragster.
Posted by GregFK on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 2:14 PM

Hi all,

Been lurking for awhile and decided I would jump back into the hobby after a loooong absence.

Does anyone here remember the old Tarantula Dragster? It was a kit I built twice as a kid. Been looking for it for awhile now but to no avail. Has anyone seen one for sale anywhere? Does anyone have a built kit that they'd like to share (to bring back those warm fuzzy feelings from when I was young).

Thanks and looking forward to posting more often in the future.

Cheers,

Greg

Oh yeah, I remember it. I can't seem to recall who made it though. Had a funky green plastic didn't it? It certainly looked good when put together. I don't have one (did have 1 about 30 some years ago) but I do see them from time to time on evil bay.

This is a 1/18 completed one. Is this it? I occasionally see kits of this on ebay. Look frequently, there is nothing currently as of 9/25 when I'm searching for it...

Hi Greg, welcome back to the hobby, and welcome to FSM! Great buncha katz here.

I've got all my old childhood models, most of 'em still intact. Tom Daniel's T'rantula is on my shop shelf; if I remember tomorrow, I'll take a pic for you and post it here.

In the meanwhile, check out the following website. Those are some good katz over there too, with a bunch of model pics and galleries. Those guys are show rod freaks.

When you get to the site, click on Coffin Corner for forums, or browse member builds in Guest Gallery.

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies. The Tarantula that you guys show is the absolute one I remember. It was a horrid bright green and came with a plastic spider as well. It was a great kit and I remember it fondly.

There's another kit that I remember (but I don't remember what it was called). It was another show rod where the driver's compartment was a covered coffin and the driver was a skeleton holding some sort of staff. Anyone remember that one?

Edit: Answered my own question. It was Bad Medicine. Man I loved those kits!!!

Camo,

Thanks for the link to the site. Man some of those bring back a tonne of memories. Rommel's Rod was another fave of mine as a kid. Bet that one commands a few bucks on evil bay these days. If I remember correctly though didn't someone re-release that kit awhile back?

Cheers all,

The T'rantula was issued by Monogram and I to built it years ago. Today I only have minor details left from it. The slicks lays on the bed of my Ford F1 that you can see in another thread here.

The Rommels Rod is going (hopefully to be issued again but with better detail and in a new tooling) and I sure will get me some of that one.

Man is this thread old!  But since i'm here how about them other Tom Daniels cars.    The Rattler.   Came with a forked tongue on the front and had a wicked slant six for a mill.   The Sandshark. It had fins and a v8 with short velocity stacks. The Ice T .Delivery sedan...  came with ice blocks. And who could forget The Red Baron.... it came with machine guns! Best way to get through traffic!!!

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"
