Formula 1 Grand Prix
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, October 17, 2003 12:44 AM
I have a simple question...hopefully. Does anybody know if there are any PE sets out there for the F1 Grand Prix cars. More specificaly looking for the Williams-BMW. Just got the model from Tamayia the other day, & started thinking about the PE parts & if there would be any out there.

Thank You

The Model Car Garage
(http://www.modelcargarage.com)
has photoetched detail sets that have generic things like dzus fasteners, wire mesh, nut and bolt heads that can be used to dress up an engine bay.
They don't have a detail set specifically for that particular F1 car model, but their accessories like hoses, cables and brake lines can also be used to greatly enhance any model.
I've got several of their detail sets and they're pretty good - I especially like the detail set for the Accurate Miniatures McLaren M8B -
Cheers and good luck

Hi,

I just completed the 1/20 FW24 as well. It is by far the best car kit to date!

Studio 27 makes PE parts for this kit. 1/20 FW24 Grade Up Parts. There is also an FW24 decal set, FW24 Sponsor decals (compaq and other) and FW24 High Tech decals. All offer different options when working on this, yet another fine Tamyia kit.

Here is a like to all those options...they are about 1/2 down that page.

One last note...The kit calls for the blue to be TS-51. This paint is the exact copy of the real car. The white is just X-2 White.

Anyone know of a site that has pictures of the actual car unclothed as it were so all the wiring and plumbing etc can be added?

Touchy subject nich!
The teams do not take kindly to photographs of the cars especially the underneath technicals. (Team Rahal tried to ban any photos of their car when it went over to stop competetors from seeing how they designed the 'tunnels'underneath. I know F1 is flat bottomed, but the idea is the same.) Good news is the plumbing and wiring do not change drastically from year to year so if you can find year old photos you should be good to go. Try, Crash.net, Formula1.com, or a google search.
For excellent reference go get the book s: "Anatomy of a Formula One Race Car" (mine is on loan right now so I can't get the authors name) "A-Z of Formula One Race Cars" by David Hodges, or the Giant Photo book "Grand Prix" by Rainer Schlegelmilch.
Even my tiny towns library has a copy of "Grand Prix."
