General Lee Update? Dissappointment.
Posted by fantacmet on Saturday, December 1, 2007 6:55 PM

You know I should have learned to be dissappointed by AMT.  I had been hearing they corrected the backglass of the General Lee kit.  The boxart showed it had been corrected.  I heard they had cleaned up the mold and made it rather spectacular.  Well, while they did clean up the mold a bit, eliminating alot of the flash, they did it very sloppily.  They also put in a new rollbar/cage, which is incorrect.  The original was close to correct, this one is nowhere near.  Also the backglass has not been corrected either.  The build done for the boxart is an entirely different kit.  It may be their 1:16 scale version which was correct, or it may be a combination of the AMT kit and the Revell kit.  Sorely dissappointing considering the amount I spent on this thing.

In the future I plan to purchase another one, and take the wheels, decals, pushbar and grill inserts, and build the rest of it as a hotrod.  Then transplant all of that into the Revell 69 charger, after sanding down the vinyl top on the Revell kit to match the real car correctly.  I THINK The Revell kit has the correct engine, but if not it can be found in their 69 Dart GTS.  I plan to make a correct and detailed General Lee.  Scratchbuilding the Rollbar will be easy, it is a very simple design.
