The Decals From my bro's old revell cobra kit didnt want to play nice. The 428 cobra jet required alot of chopping on the car and frame along with sum on the engine, the exhausts were easy. engine wire in red. had to use a non cobra jet carburater to the air cleaner would fit under the hood, and the paint is sapphire blue by testors. exhausts are from 1 of my dad's old kits i had to chop them 1/4 inch to fit properly.

links dont work

The AC Cobra 289 was very similar in almost all respects to the "427" body...the main differences were flared wells for the larger tires - body width was 7 inches wider in the 427 Mklll at 56 inches, and the overall length was just under 5 inches longer than the 289 body.  VERY similar in all other respects, in truth...but not identical.  Same hardware, hinges, brightwork (mostly)...

Many 427's had an extra cutout behind the front wheel arch (below the side vents) for the Lake pipes exit...and the nose was different to house the oil cooler on the S/C.  Other than those very minor differences, Chris is right...pretty much no difference between the two....but the overall difference in appearance is very striking.

Very nice!

I've always liked the 289 Cobra, maybe even better than the 427 Cobra. Its lines are sleek and muscular. I'd love to have one, but I'm not sure where I'd put the car seat! :)

Please post a little bit more on how the model went together and how you painted it.

Regards,

You do realise that they are BOTH the exact same car - just different engines. Just so you know, it is my namesake!  I've had four of these in my lifetime, I gave one to my dad as a present in 2001 since he bought me one so long ago. I painted his in pearl white with a curly maple dashboard finished in walnut stain. It was a beautiful car. I wish I got pictures of it. I'm in the process of restoring my first one that my dad gave me so long ago (1986). I have another in parts that I hope to get to someday, but I'm not holding my breath!  I hope to get to this as soon as I get the money for it.

Back to the original subject, this paint is nice, and shiny! The guages are decals - correct? I wish I could get some new dials for MY dash. The originals are long gone (destroyed). The first one I got is an original Cobra, the other two I just bought were replicas. The one I gave my dad was a replica too.  I just wish I had the money to get my baby finished. Someday.......soon!  Anyone have dial guages for a 1963 Ford Cobra?

Maybe a picture of a squirrel playing a harmonica will make you feel better?

I Just ordered this kit from amazon 5 days ago. My plan for it is Sapphire Blue With a Revell 1/25 scale 428 Cobra Jet for the engine. got any tips for me? im a big 428 fan so no stock notor for me. tips like custom exhausts and vents on the sides like the 427s have.

Thanks, Jake

ps great build man

Very nice.....I like the paint.....very sharp.
I met a guy here in Oz that has an honest to God AC Cobra.....built by Ford after Carrol Shelby terminated his association with Ford......they had a bunch of bodies and engines and decided to sell them - marketed them as Ford Cobras, I think, as Carrol owned the "AC Cobra" copyright.
This thing was built with a 289 in a 427 body - a "for real" aluminum body - in fantastic shape, anc completely original and unrestored - must be worth a mint....it had a mildly lumpy cam, and did low 10/high 9 quarters....a box stompin little monster, it was....probably one of the 5 meanest looking body shapes ever made......along with the 250 GTO, GT40, 288 GTO and the XKE lightweight....

Cheers, LeeTree

I agree , the paint job looks very good. How was it painted? The work under the hood also appears to be well sorted out as does the dash gauges. Would you have changed anything if building it over?   Thanks for showing.

AirBorne, I built this kit too! It was a few years ago, didnt turn out as well as your did but I did learn one thing... it was a pain to put together!!! LOL Yours looks pretty well done. I'm building a 427 right now... I'm also building a GT 350 with the 289 and I have to say WOW... how did they cram that engine in there?!Confused [%-)]

Hey Everybody,

This is my first post here... AMT/ERTL 1/25 289 Cobra, built this one a while back and thought I'd share it.  Can't wait for Accurate Miniatures' version... knowing it'll be much better than this one.  Let me know what you think...
