I second the primsacolor pencils.  Or other wax based pencils.  The verithins by prismatic work great.  I have also used them for panel lines.  I have used silver for the small script badges on bodywork as well.  Works great.

You know what you ought to try? Glow in the dark paint. Usually sort of grainy with a greenish tinge but makes an adequate backround colour. Usually have to "charge up" most brands by holding it up to a light for a minute or two, but your instrument bezels look like they're lit, at least in a darkened room.

Not that anybody will ever see them but you....

I just dry brush. For the chrome highlights I have found that Metalizers works real nice dry brushing wise.

Try getting some prismatic colored pencils. I've got a few different colors that I use for my aircraft, but they'll work great for autos too!

I use a sharpie metal permanent ink marker after I airbrush the background color.
Currently I'm looking for another way to use more colors, like for an aircraft instrument panel.
Does any one have any ideas?
