When Nascar ran dirt.

Some of you may have seen this one but I ran across it will looking for something else and wanted to share it with the ones that haven't.

There's at least ten Championships in this group, not to mention some of the best dirt dobbers to ever strap into a five point harness.

This is a great pic! Back in the day when NASCAR stockers were just once removed from 'shine running.

So long folks!

Thanks, glad you liked it. I get as much fun out of setting up and shooting pics like this as I do building the models and "sets" to do them on.

Sweet picture, Mitch. Did hose boys use the 5-point back then? My favorite part is the dust effect you did. It's very convincing!

Yep, by then the five point was mandatory. We lost Joe Weatherly at Riverside in '64 because shoulder harness was optional and he said he felt to confined and only used a lap belt. Billy Wade was killed at Daytona (tire test) om early '65 by a lap belt that rode up and that brought in the fifth, or anti-submarine, belt that makes up what we have come to call the racing harness even though we kinda "borrowed" it from the Air Force guys.

Thanks for the compliments ya'll. Hey Jim, given the era of most of my model pics that old raggedy blue car would have to be out front in about 74% of my pics. That is SO depressing for an old Holman Moody fan like me. Boohoo [BH]

Hey Mitchum,

Not that I'm a fan of Mopar but I remember watching on TV Richard Petty make it look so easy taking the checkered, and without crashing anyone... oop's did I say that out loud? Tongue [:P]

I see in 1993 Holman Moody had their GT MKII chassis P201 run at the Lime Rock Vintage Festival (Lime Rock, CT). That was one of my old stomping grounds as I grew-up in CT.
