chroming on car kits
Posted by codahowe on Saturday, February 9, 2008 8:54 AM

I am in the process of building a 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner for my girlfriends step dad for father's day.  He did a ground up restore of the real thing a few years ago.

Anyway, I want to do some detailing on it, ie. cut out the spacing in the front grill to show through to the rad and engine bay.  Is there any good way to redo the chrome after I cut out all the little holes.  I thought I saw an article in an old Finescale years ago but can't find it.  Can this be done as good as the original or will I need to redo all the chrome on it to match?

Try a google search for "Bare Metal Foil" they should have what you need.

Sometimes you can sand the back of the grill to open it up, if that is the case on this kit you wouldn't need to rechrome the grill.

thanks for the info.  I think I'll try the filing down the back first and see how that goes.  Seems to be the simplest and cheapest way out, lol.

Thanks again guys.
