Window tinting
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, October 30, 2003 12:27 PM
Somewhere I have seen hints on tinting windows/aircraft canopies, etc. Can someone point me in the right direction?

I ran across a spray can of clear smoke made by Testors (Model Master) while at a railroad hobby shop. Look for that, too. Personally I'm biased to the tinted Future method.

Thanks gang. I have never used Future as I dont make too many plastic models of planes of armor or autos. I just like to buildwhatever turn me on at the time. I was looking for info for tinting a sunroof and "limo tint" for the side windows of my attempt to model a '29 PU with an extended cab.

I have seen models tinted with exposed film. Haven't tried it myself but looks like it worked alright. Hope it helps.
that which doesn't make us irate or irritated, has probably been thrown against the wall.

I have in the past used actual auto tint film, but mostly on larger scale models like my Lindberg 1:20 Firebird. If the widow is pretty much straight, it works on 1:24/1:25 as well.Big Smile [:D]

But what would you tint the Future with for that "smoked" look. I have not seen black food coloring. Would you use black clothes dye, ink, black acrylic?

Thin, black acrylic paint. Try it on a scrap piece (like the clear sprue) first.

Hey, I just came across some smoke paint made by Alclad in the computer catalog at work.......I work at a hobby shop. I ordered some in and am going to give it a try.
I will pass on my results.
