I have got back into the hobby after a long hiatus. Man it has changed a lot since the sixties. My painting skills have finally got back to where I feel comfortable with my builds. I finally stopped using enamel and went to laquer. I do have a question about clear laquer. I'm building the Hurst Hairy Olds and had to use enamel for the glod and black paint job. I wanted to use Boyds black pearl instead of just black. In the past I've got away with using MM clear laquer over the enamel. I've got a can of TS13 that I haven't tried yet. My question is, is TS13 hotter than MM and will it ruin my decals? Thanks for any help and I hope that I can help out you all sometime. (slight chance of that, but it could happen) Most of my builds are old school super stocks and AXF cars that I saw as a kid. I've got a stock pile of 8 Jo-han 71 cudas for future builds. I do have a 71 Cuda and a 69 Cuda built as the Motown Missile. The 69 is a what if. I've also done the Landy 68 Charger and the Dart. I've got another Dart (GTS) that I'm going to build into one of the Hemi Darts. The list goes on but at least it gives everybody an idea of my tastes. Looks like a great site.

In reality, you are not suppose to be shooting Lacquer over enamels, you can do the opposite though. Tamiya paints are not as "hot" as regular lacquers, they really are just modified enamels and can even be shot right over bare plastic. Make it a habit to test everything you try on a scrap piece of plastic, preferably from the model you are building before deciding on your painting options and mostly if you are clear coating decals as these can be more delicate to some paints than others. Also, make it a habit to always use primer before painting, it will give you a better canvas for paints to adhere to and further protect the plastic from hotter paints.

I use primer now that I got away from enmaels. Enamel goes on so thick that after the primer and color coat it's gets kinda hard to tell if the emblems say 442 or GTO!! Using MM laquer is like night and day. Nice and thin. I have got away with the laquer over enamel so far. I wouldn't try it with Duplicolor though.
