Quality Lamborghini Gallardo/Murcielago kits?
Posted by bcamp1973 on Sunday, May 25, 2008 11:18 PM
Hello! I'm an armor/aircraft modeler mostly. I'm dying to build a Lamborghini Gallaro or Murcielago. I'm a HUGE fan of Tamiya models, but the latest they have is a Countach (Not even a Daiblo??? Get with the times guys!). In my experience few companies can compare to Tamiya's quality and accuracy, but I'm hoping someone out there will have a decent product? Any recommendations for good kits?

On that note, wish me luck on building a model where i can't cover my mistakes with "weathering" ;)

The only kits I could find of either are from Fujimi. I have built several Fujimi kits, they are good kits. They are mostly curbside, and I am sure the new Lambos don't have much more than a shallow engine insert; definately not full detail engine. On the kits I have built, the interior detail is a little soft, but still looks great after completion. The body proportions and shapes are dead-on, and the finished model looks very, very nice. I would reccomend Fujimi, especially since they are the only one that makes the car you are looking for. The fit is not quite as good as Tamiya's, but it is still good; you just can't shake the box and have it fall together. Check out the link to my Fotki page below my signature, the Ferrari Superamerica is a Fujimi kit.

Thanks Jon! I'll definitely look into the Fujimi kits. Can you send me that link to the Ferrari? I'm not seeing it in your post/signature.

cheers!

yea, the only available styrene kits for recent day lambos, including diablo n diablo sv, are from fujimi.  i personally don't like fujimi kits but had to resort to some due to the rarity of the kits.  the worst offenders would be their seats.  they have hollowed out backs so that needs to be filled up with putty since it's darn right visible after the kit is done. (might not be in lambo's case)

The reason tamiya RE-release their LP500 was because it was amongst their early release kits and became really sort after by collectors.  They have been re-releasing a lot of their classic kits that made some builders really happy since we don't have to dish out or look around on ebay as much to finally build on.  As slow as tamiya is on releasing new kits, whatever they eventually come up with are usally astonishing though, think carrera GT, enzo, fxx, and all those perfect fitting GTRs n NSXes.
