Today I started to build the AMT 1962 Thunderbird, the kit is cool, but the instructions sheet is uncomplete. Anybody had built this kit??????. I guess the engine block is red, but , what color is painted the undercarriage??????. It´s in the same bodycolor??????

Well that's tough....

I've been reading through my AMT manuals...and didn't see a specific color set you are supposed to paint...although the Revel kit i have gave the colors used to match the one on the cover...

Usually GM engines are painted Orange (alot of them get painted redish/orange), but most of the boys that like the blue oval's that I know of paint their blocks blue...

Now this is real life...I'm not sure what color, if any, they came from the factory.

I'm very new to this hobby, but I would imagine that you would paint different parts of the under carriage different colors. I see the frame as black, exhaust as a metallic color, oil pan blue or chrome...

Stuff like that...

Then again...I'm not 100% on what you are trying to accomplish...

Anywho...that's my two cents...

I'm not 100% surw on the thunderbirds, but I know that Ford typically painted the chassis with red oxide primer, and body color overspray. Front suspension parts are typically semi-gloss black, same with the rear. Steel driveshaft, steel ir aluminum metalizer could be used on the exhaust. Hope this helps!!

Dear Marhal,

The correct colors for the 62 T-bird are:

- engine block: black (as ALL FoMoCo cars from 1960 to 1965);
- chassis components: semi-gloss black, including driveshaft. Note that the 62 T-bird is a unibody vehicle; so, all underbody must be painted red oxide primer with an overspray of the body color. Rails are welded to the floor pan and are body color.

My references are original FMoCo sales and service literature (I'm Ford V8 Club of Brazil technical advisor).

Hope this helps. Happy modelling !
