1/35 Rolls-Royce armored car

From the September 1989 FSM. I've had the magazine since it was new, but the release of the Jordi Rubio resin kit...and its $100+ price tag...inspired me to break out the Evergreen.  I think this is a cool project; it's an interesting subject and there are no compound curves. I'm not sure what I'll do about the wheels and tires, though. The author built in 1/24 and basically rebodied a Bentley kit, adding new centers to the wheel rims.

The bar going across the frame horns will not stay. It will be cut down and carved into the spring mounts. It was glued on like that to keep everything symmetrical.

That's a leaf spring between the chassis and body.

That's great! I'll be anxious to see how the rest of it turns out. I've kept that issue too because I've always loved the RR armored cars.

Please keep posting your progress.

Hey wow, someone saw it.

Here it is a few nights later. It doesn't look like much was done but I had to redo part of the main body because I noticed the turret was slightly offset. The pickup bed is in progress with tool boxes. Hatches are now on the turret.

Lee,

It looks great so far! Check out this page for some good photos of a Rolls Royce Armored Car (including the interior).

I'm anxious to see more.

Guys,

Greetings from Down Under!!

I too have a copy of that article and it will be my next (and first) attempt at scratchbuilding.  I plan to do one of the Aussie RRAC in the desert during WW1 and as a result will build it with no top on the turret.

My question is - does anybody have any photos of the interior (I'm guessing the one at Bovington to be the most obvious) showing the contents and construction of the area of the turret?  I will write to Bovington if I have no luck but thought the forum to be the best place to start.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Also, Lee do you have any further pics of your build?

Regards

Greg

Greg,

I've done some searching, but I'm not finding any interior shots of the turret. The only interior shots I've seen are the ones in the link I posted above.

Good luck,

-Drew

Drew,

Thanks for looking.  I will contact Bovington and try a couple of the other forums.  I'll let you know if I have any luck.

Cheers

Greg
