One of the joys of building 1/700 ships has been the explosion of kit offerings in that scale in recent years, and the subsequent rush in aftermarket PE accessories for things that most ship modelers could only dream about even a few years ago.
And while there are more and more accessories being offered, like buildings, if there are not a lot of buyers they won't be on the market for long. White Ensign Models had a great line of railroad rolling stock for awhile, but when I finally got around to working on a stateside dockyard diorama of an attack transport, they had stopped making them because not enough people bought them. Bummer. To the internet to see what 1940s vintage boxcars, flatcars and switching engines might look like. Then out came the 1/700 scale ruler, pieces of styrene, bits of photoetch and my trusty Waldron sub-miniature punch to make the wheels. The results turned out OK, to my eye at least:
And my daughter has the nerve to call me OCD ...
