Scratch building ideas for a Mega Cycle Project
Posted by modelmaniac1967 on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 2:56 PM

I have been reading how to scratch build and i have scratch built parts for models but this would be an entire build from scratch. I picked up the old school rodz mag the other day and fell in love with ed roths mega cycle. I want to build it and not sure what to build the body out of. I would like to use sheet plastic as i have a life time supply of it but realize it will need a support system for the body. As you can see it has a lot of compound curves. I was thinking using plastic rod and making a frame work but that may not be strong enough. Brass rod would probably be better, but not sure where to start. Any ideas would be appreciated. Or ideas on how any of you would tackle this project. In 1/24th scale.

The above websight has about every picture you could want for scratchbuilding. Frame, motor, wheels and suspension should be able to be pieced together from various kits. I would carve the body shape from wood and vacuform it., same for the windshield.

Thank you for your response, I was thinking vacuform myself but have never tried it. I have read a lot about it and that may be the only way to go. I can build the vacuform box and all that but the carving is the harder part for me. I will see what I can come up with for the buck form. thank you again.
