Hey,SPRUE-ce Goose! The nice thing about those things is that they come in colors you can use for tinted windows too.The other nice thing about them is if you have some with the slightly grainy finish on the outside of the bottom, they make neat custom inserts on car model door interiors.    tankerbuilder P.S. If you are doing a larger scale ship you can swap out deckhouse sections with the clear, mask with the center cutout of those little rings you use to keep notebook paper from tearing.Take the little center pieces and use them for paint masks where portholes are!!

Thanks for letting in some light on a dim topic.

I was just deciding what  to do with some old cases.

plastic inserts for cutaway areas

Here we go again! Those goll durn C.D.cases! I was looking for a way to do a cutaway boat model and keep the dust out! My eye settled on a C.D. jewel case (one I had left over!) and I got the old light bulb over the cranium! I cut a piece out of the clear front and using a hair dryer I softened it enough.I bent it to fit the curve of the hull ,traced out the shape of the hole or window cut into the hull. I then chamfered the edge of the hole inThe hull. I then cut the piece of jewel case plasticto drop in .Don,t forget to make the piece as large as the outside of the chamfered hole.Chamfer it to match and it should just drop in.If you get a good fit then using claer parts cement glue it in place! VIOLA!!! A cutaway model that won,t get dusty inside. This works on aircraft and tanks too! I have not tried it on a car, but I bet it would work great on an eighteen wheeler! Just think all those flat doors in the cab and sleeper replaced with clear so you can see inside and NOT have to figure out how to make a removable part!!Lastly, you can engrave the clear front pieces tomake instruments.Try it you,ll like it!!      tankerbuilder   P.S.Because the plastic seems to be a little higher grade, if you heat it it won,t get foggy on you!!
