I used PE belts on my B-17 but I have seen that heat-bent zip ties can be very convincing

Im having trouble getting pics on here, so here:

Yes, 1/48.  I was actually looking to replicate the boxed feed belt style like here:

If I can't come up with something along that line then I will just go for the traditional belt style using the method you suggest.  Thanks!

1/48 scale?

Get a chocolate bar with gold foil wrapper. Then form it over a row a common staples to get your 'belt' It probably will be easier to cut the foil in the correct width first. If you need it stronger fill the back side with CA glue after its formed.

* Reader tip from FSM... I remembered it from the 80's!

B-17 ammo belts....need suggestions.

Hey fellas,

Ok, for all intents and purposes I have never done any real scratchbuilding.  So I decided to put myself to the test.  I have the tried and true Revellogram B-17G in the stash that I have decided to forego using any expensive photo etch, resin (aftermarket, not what I may mold and cast myself if any at all), etc. and stick strictly to making the details myself.  So I have been really studying pictures, deciding where to concentrate efforts, what really won't be seen, how I may make this, or make that.  But one area I am having trouble figuring out what to do is the ammo belts running into the guns.  Anyone have suggestions on how I might be able to scratch passable looking pieces?
