LEGOS and modeling

I do have to tell you WOODY , the special shapes have pulled my fat out of the fire more than once.I have done some unusual vessels over the years and on some only LEGOS helped me cut down the build time.The wheels and gears and such are real handy.I use the small wheels and rocket nosecones for radar bases for 1/96 scale.I have even used the "hose" reels for ship deck mounted winches. I've been using the blocks for resin casting for years. I have huge tub of orange bricks as I only need one color. I have a pretty large assortment of the more interesting specialty pieces that I use for scratchbuilding.

Hi; I am dissappointed to hear that. I have NEVER had a problem with the LEGO brand name product. I did indeed have that problem with their largest competitor,which is MEGA BLOX.  There is another pretender out there too known as "SUPER BLOX" I doknow that I can use TENAX 7 R for gluing the LEGOS.They HAVE changed the chemical makeup of their product as I have noticed  they seem to be softer BUT stronger.I do know that if you use LEGOS that have been played with and left OUTSIDE they do exhibit the brittle characteristics you have mentioned. I have noticed also that the transparent parts now exhibit tendencies mindful of ABS.Takes a cut clean but will shatter if you try to crease and cut like you would do when cutting glass. You Must cut all the way through with a razor saw or a photoetched saw. I hope you will find this a little help. I just did a stepped side drydock for a 1/350 ship I am building.It looks neat in two shades of grey blended with paint overtones. I don,t usually do dioramas at all.    tankerbuilder

Strips of Lego could be sanded or scrapped on the edges and assembled to make a 'cast' master of a concrete bunker, thus giving it the proper look of wooden forms. Keeping it square is easy as the Lego will do that for you by design.

I once tried to cut apart clear Lego (red & green) for aircraft clearance lights. It was brittle and did not sand well, the only thing that would touch it was a high speed motor tool.
