I appreciate the tips, I have scrapped that specific idea, anything I did made the helmet look way to big.  But ill save the topic for when I need it next

I have simulated hair in a carved (wood) figure by using a wire brush wheel in my adjustable speed Dremel and using a low speed.  Maybe that technique would work for fur too.

The fur can be simulated by back scraping the edge of a square or triangle shaped file. Try one a bit larger than hobby fine files. This will give the texture, paint dark brown & dry brush with a lighter shade to make the detail 'pop' I have used this technique on white metal with good results.

Hey , SMEAG it,s me! Tankerbuilder. Have you tried or can you do static grass??? If you can find it in brown and use the static applicator it will definitely look like hair in 1/35. Hope this helps.

CA would probably work.  White glue will hold foil, but the bond isn't very strong.

No, not yet.  I am actually planning on using tin foil, rolled up into a tiny cylinder between two glued pieces of tinfoil, then cutting it into the shape of the feather.  but I need some glue that will work on the foil first.

...How can I go about making it look realistic at that small of a scale...

Hone your sculpting skills.  Have you made your 1/35th feathers yet?

a question about sculpting fur
Posted by smeagol the vile on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 8:05 PM

Hey guys, maybe you can help me.  I am working on a project that will require me to sculpt fur in 1/35th scale, specifically a buffalo headdress for a Lakota warrior.

How can I go about making it look realistic at that small of a scale.

Alternatively, do you think it would look right to make the base of the headdress then put static grass down over it to give it that look?
