Scratching seat cushions?

Know you've already done it, but for future reference I have had good luck by soaking a small piece of shop towel in water, fold and mold to shape, let it dry then hit it with a little thin CA glue to hold it's shape, let dry again and then paint.

In my exhausted, work-addled state last night, I decided to be lazy, and cut a small piece of cardboard from a box top. Rounded off the corners with a sanding stick, cut a slit for the shoulder belt pass-through, and painted it up. Overall it does the job - just about the right amount of depth, decent texture. I'd post a pic but the ones I took came out terribly. Will make another attempt tonight.

I have used an easy-carving wood such as balsa or basswood.  Several different thickness sheets available at hobby shops.  Sometimes I cover them with masking tape, other times I just prime and paint with flat paint.  Those woods make it easy to "carve" in slight wrinkles and creases, and to shape and round off the corners. 

I've done it two ways. The first I used, like you say, card stock which I cut to size and shaped. I didn't think to use tape, that certainly would produce an interesting texture.

The other way I've done it is by using milliput. Nothing fancy, just shape it with a finger or something.

I like using Magic sculp, shape it near to finished and let it almost dry before finishing the shape and textures.
