Liveship traders.

Just curious how many of you have read these books?

I love the idea of living figureheads on ships.

While reading these books i got to thinking. What do these ships actually look like? They're never completely described properly. The few descriptions given in the book are as follows.

Ophelia: Old style trading Cog.

Vivacia: Merchant Vessel

Paragon (pariah): Merchant Vessel

Tarman: River Barge. (Dragon Keeper Series)

Set in the days of pirates and slave trade and big tall ships. What do you think each ship would look like?

I know its not much to go on. But these ships fascinate me.

Other Info. Crews of around 15. All of them have figureheads.  Usually single masted (Except Tarman which is poled upriver until certain secrets are revealed) All of them are described as having a forecastle (not sure if this is relevant) Not sure what other info i can give. If youve read the books are can add to this list it would be cool.

Post pictures of what you think each ship might look like.

TIA

Mike

Hi: guy ! Listen,I have read these books. I believe that you might find that if you paired up the late16th century ships with a modicum of design that smacks of the late days of sail. I have often wondered this myself and the conclusion I came to is that VIVACIA , and the pariah PARAGON are indeed some form of  living FRIGATE. Perhaps of a blend of galleon and AMERICAN FRIGATE of the REVOLUTIONARY period. I could be MISTAKEN , but the way that VIVACIA is described That is the conclusion I came to. And of course being "LIVESHIPS" they wouldn,t need a crew as large as real one would. This is an interesting supposition. Are you thinking of getting down to building one?? Build VIVACIA and you can use the female figurehead from one of the clippers.  good luck-----TANKERBUILDER
