Never heard of an Allison modification proposed for the '29, though. But then, I never did claim to know everything, although my wife seems to think I do, at least when it comes to things aviation.

I'll have to see if there are any images available.

Speaking of bashing a '17, has anyone ever bashed a Boeing 299Z, which was the B17 that was used as a test bed for other engines(in the nose)?

Something else that might make for an interesting bash project is a twin-engine P40(saw a photo of that in a long ago issue of Wings). Seeing as it was taken from aft facing forward, I couldn't tell if it had a snub nose(ala Grumman F5F), or with a long nose.

The 17 was with 1710s, but the 29 used 3420s.  These were 1710s on a common mount geared together- the 29 needed a LOT of power!  I have a book on the 1710 that discusses that wild project.  Never went into very much production.  But I'd sure like to have heard one of those planes!

There were a number of experimental US bombers that flew that have interested me as well.  A couple are a B-17 with four Allison 1710s, and the big B29 with the big Allison 3420s.  The former might be done by kit bashing a 17 and four P-40 kits :-)
