amazing project,it would be quite a stick on there in reality,with the extensions added.worked on a wind tower crew and our crahe was a Liebherr,spellcheck anyone.....thanks for sharing.

I missed part 1 of your post, it all makes sense....at first I thought you were constructing a monster off shore oil rig with the attendent crawler crane perched on a platform. With the quality of your work I'm sure you could build such a model.

I've seen a few Manitowoc crawler cranes around Providence in different configurations (including barge mounted cranes) but never one atop a gantry.  

1:48 is a great scale to work in.....

thunder1, If you look at the first photo of the first gantry post you will see that the gantry is used to gain height and reach. The crane, a Manitowoc RINGER Series S-4, is placing a 170 ton containment ring for what appears to be a nuclear reactor site. Gantries are not very common in construction.

What is this prototype for this rig, I'm unfamiliar with it's function......nice clean work, all the corners look plumb and square, not an easy thing to do with consistency with so many girders and stringers.

Gamera, The crane boom is 65" tall. I have enough boom extensions to go to 90".
