Here's an Idea:

    Do you want a Armor Recovery vehicle with an open Grid Crane Boom? If the What I call Pipe style Boom doesn't melt yer Butter. Here's an alternative.

   Pick the poor vehicle that has been de - turreted. Now save the turret mounting ring. Create a winchfrom a small spool drum to which you build up the ends. Or use the somewhat out of scale Bumper winch drum from Monogram's half Track!

 Then, now here's where it get's interesting. Find someone who does model RailRoad layouts. See if they have one or two High Tension Electrical towers.

 Cut these down to build the open grid type boom you want. Put it all together and Viola an Armor Recovery Vehicle( Heavy Duty) Mk.! Use the small return rollers from a wrecked M-4-A-1 for the sheaves on the end. Sand them as thin as possible and the glue the halves together! Mount in the small end and it's done! Now rig the cable!

I need to create unloading booms for smaller scale lakers.  Unfortunately they do not taper like towers, and are too small to conveniently build piece by piece (did that on a 1:192 vessel- smallest I'd tackle).

I am interested in doing a PE one, but photo process is just too involved, plus the boom is too long for the Micro-Mark kit I have.  I am exploring toner transfer PE, but early attempts smudged the lines when I ironed the paper.  I am going to keep playing with the idea though.

Also wondering if there are commercial places who do custom PE at reasonable prices who would take my artwork.

Hi Don;

     This will help you some. The High Tension towers I have are straight for about half their length. This should give you what you want. Plus I have discovered some very interesting T.V towers and bridge barts that will work for you in " N " Scale.

        What scale is the Micro Mark kit you have?
