I Know:
Funny title right? Well, I and others have been doing Cut-Aways out of many things. Planes, Cars, Submarines etc. Here's a material for Subs and Space-Ships that I bet most never thought of. I was talking with a friend about these things and he works for a Laboratory Supply company. He said that they have 2-1/2" drain pipe, Optically clear, that is used for some fluid transfer applications. It has to be optically clear to make sure any residue can be seen and flushed, Before another product is run through them.
He showed me a photo on his phone. He took the large L-1011 kit and used the Nose and Tail from it and one of these pipes in the passenger area. So much neater than just an open hole! This is what I have been saying all along. On ships you can do this by taking care when you do the cut-out and then Vacuum Forming the cut-out part or Smash Molding it! Then finish out the opening to let the new clear part snugly fit into the hull and cabin or deck-house area!
I think back to the S.S.N.George Washington by Ideal (yup, they did it too) And My Mega -Blox kit ( Wifey bought it as a joke.) That thing was over three feet long! All the detail you could have and keep it dust and spider free! Please think about this too, CAR Modelers, You could do a Clear hood or such, Fender even, to show off some very interesting parts. I mean , to some folks a fully independent Front Suspension is fascinating ( You don't get to see that everyday!)
