As Usual-No Pictures. But I think if you pay attention you might be willing to try this. Are you an aircraft or ship modeler? I single you out for a good reason. There aren't that many good Auto or Armor kits in the arena where we will get our pattern.
There are some good paper models out there. Aircraft and Ships. Even Prop Planes and Sailing Ships. As to the ships, some are even full hull! Most are waterline, But you can go from 1/200 all the way down to 1/400! A few even show up in 1/350, but sadly not many. The Planes range from 1/72 all the way to 1/32 and 1/48 as well.
Yes, this will cost you a way lot less than a Plastic kit, Money wise. Time wise? Have you got the desire to put many hours in? If so, you can do this. ONLY if you are willing to widen the horizon of skills you may have acquired. This is NOT for NOVICES in Model Building!
Do You want to keep going? Good! First our pattern. Now as we know All products are protected by Patents. So, we don't want to step on toes here. Go the Fenten's Papermodel.Com site and buy the paper kit of your choice.
Now when the model comes. Delete all the names on the Shiphull wherever they are and unit designators on the Plane. Now here's where it starts to get scary. Copy the paper model sheets onto.010 sheet plastic from Evergreen Plastics. One side is in matte.This is the side you want the kit on.
You can do it in color or black and white -Your choice. These will Only be used for your patterns that you have transffered to the plastic sheet. .010 is like heavy card-Stock( Business Cards.) The Paper kits are already colored. Most of the Planes are in matte colors representing B.M.F. or Paint. All the Ships are.
One place you plane builders will have fun is going to your parts box for, Canopies, Cockpit interiors and Wheels and Armaments! The ship-Builder will want some Evergreen Round and Square stock for Deck hardware and Gun Barrels as well as Torps etc..Parts boxes for lifeboats etc.
Check out Fenten's, decide if you want to give it a try and I will start the process next time. Or go to your nearby Bookstore(do they even still exist?) and and pick up some Dover Publications printed Dio sets. there are many, all buildings, But it will give you an idea where we are going with this.They have some Small Port sets with Small Boats in them and of course the Buildings too!
I am not suggesting the buildings unless you want a good tutorial on Folding and Shaping.They give you a good one in photo form. We will not be folding plastic, but it's a skill you will need for the last part which will be adding P.E. to a Scratch Model built from a Paper-Model used as a pattern.
