Hello Everybody,
Some time ago I decided to build a Sd.Kfz. 222 RC model for my daughter to play around with.
The Sd.Kfz. 222 has always been a favorite of mine so I was very motivated.
After ordering a lot of reference books and endless hours on line I decided on the model to build and started drawing in SolidWorks the basic shapes.
I used running gear of an old RC monster truck and this provided the basic scale as 1/9.
The frame was designed and 3D printed. Here it is assembled with the running gear.
The tires are cast in silicon rubber in a 3D printed mould and mounted on the rims.
Next is the body.
Being restricted to my 3D printer bed size, I divided this shape into 3 pieces and started printing.
It looks kind of stringy but that is cut away easily.
Then it was time to go for the smaller things. I made a lot of drawings with measurements so it was easier to model them in 3D.
Then printing it out and assembling.
It worked out quite nice. Slowly but surely all details got made and added to the model.
My daughter couldn't wait to test it out.
And then the painting. First the Lafette.
Which is placed in a RC driven cuppola. Then the body received a base coat of German Grey.
And later some shadows and high lights.
And then the detailing.
This is the finished model with a figure that is still a work in progress.
I hope you enjoyed it. I certainly loved working in this rather large scale.
Merry Christmas and a happy Newyear.
