Offroad "expedition" gear
Posted by green73 on Thursday, October 11, 2007 5:26 PM
I am in the process of building Tamiya's kit#24122 Toyota Land Cruiser 80 with Sport Options. I am adding some expedition details. So far I have scratch built a high lift jack, C02 air tank, and that is about it. I have scavenged several jerry cans from other trucks as well. What I would like to add is a cooler, a modern fridge freeze, Maybe a pelican case, and a couple rubbermaid style "action packer" gear boxes. None of which exist, so I know I have to scratchbuild these too. Does anyone know of something I could use as a base for these items? I am racking my brain and coming up blank. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Oh here is a link to the fridge/freeze for refrence: http://arbusa.com/fridge_freeze.php

I have an Igloo cooler full of ice and beverage cans, a CB radio, and CO2/Oxygen tanks in 1/24 in my parts box. I'll try to figure out what kit it came from.

Check out the Fujima 1/24 auto accessory sets.  They come with lots of odd-ball stuff.

Car Junk set

Also check out Custom Dioramics and Chimneyville Hobbies.  They both do 1/24 and 1/25 car accessories.

Any squarish blob of plastic near he appropriate dimensions I would think.  Look for some of the older kits like Vans and stuff that may have accessories in them.  Thats my only other suggestion.  Or just laminate some thick pieces of styrene and start shaping.

Like he said, most of those are items are just funny shaped cubes. Have a look at the real thing see how its made then make one. Nothing more than sheet and strip styrene in the right alignment.

You can also check out Scale Equipment LTD, MTAFA(Model Truck and Firea Apparatus), Scale Repro's plus, and there are some other aftermarket companies that make stuff like this.
