Air Canada Kits with Original Red & White Livery
Posted by rodc on Monday, January 25, 2010 10:07 AM

I just finished watching a Mayday episode on Discovery where an Air Canada DC-9 had a smouldering fire in the washroom pump that erupted into a fireball upon landing and killing 20 something people - one of whom was Stan Rogers.  That was a huge loss to Canadian music - he was fantastic and is still sorely missed.

During the show, there were a couple of scenes of the DC-9 flying above the clouds and I forgot how much I actually liked this scheme.  As a pre-teen, I built an Air Canada 727 in the red and white livery but if memory serves, I believe I painted it sky blue.......I guess I liked the color.

I would love to build another Air Canada plane in that livery!  Anyone know if any manufacturer still makes one?

There are a couple of mfrs out there making 1:144 DC-9 kits. For decals I suggest visiting Draw Decals, who is the largest civil aviation decal producer in the world. If you have specific aircraft, he can produce a single sheet run. His turn around time is typically just under three weeks...given you have the artwork ready. If not it may take a bit longer.

Hi Rod,

I saw a 1/100 DC-9 in that very scheme today. I got to look through the box and it was pretty cool. There's a model here in Calgary called Uncle Bills Hobby, owned by a guy named Rick Chin. He sometimes sells peoples stashes for whatever reason. I was looking through one today and there was a lot of cool large scale airliners. Including the DC-9. I bet it's a reasonable price and he would ship to you. :)

Thanks for the info MaxPower!  I just Googled and came across this site: http://members.shaw.ca/unclebills/

Can I assume this is the same one as that in your e-mail?  If so, I will certainly send him an e-mail!

Thanks again,
