We need more 1:144 older subjects
Posted by Don Stauffer on Friday, February 19, 2010 9:16 AM

I have a dilemma now in terms of scale. I started with 1:72 airliners.  But when I got to DC-3 they were getting too big.  Built larger planes in 1:144.  There are lots of good large planes in that scale.

But it would sure be nice if all the planes were the same scale.  There is a serious lack of older, smaller subjects in 1:144.  We need the old (molded plywood) Lockheeds and the original Electra and Lodestar.  How about a Vultee V-1, and more things from that era.  Has anyone made a Boeing 247 in 1:144?

Don,

I don't know about the 247. Platz makes a C-46 in 1/144 scale. And I believe there's a resin DC-2 out there and AZ Models makes a series of Fokker trimotors,

Incidentally, watch for the May issue of FSM. We are calling for votes for most wanted kits. Good time to give manufacturers a hint of the airliners we'd like to see.

Cheers, Aaron

I realize this thread is from one year ago, but I strongly agree with your post Don.  I build mostly (almost exclusively) civilian propeller aircraft, and 1:144 is a large part of that.  I would love to see an L10, a Lodestar and a B247 in 1:144.  A Convair 240/340/440/580 would be nice and a Spruce Goose would be cool too.  I love old birds!

Edit: I do have the Convair C-131 that Testors put out in the mid-90's, but there's no scale indicated on the box or in the directions.  Mathematically, the scale comes out to be ~1/126, for a CV240.  The CV340 has a slightly longer wingspan than the 240 and the wings in the kit are too short for that model to be accurately modeled. Also, I'm not sure this kit is in production anymore, so I would add the Convair to the list.

I for one would like to see the Lockheed Constellation,- the 049.  not the Super Connie in 1/144.

Looking forward to the end of the year when Minicraft is comming out with the Convair 440-580 in 1/144. Big Smile
