New 1:72 Fokker tri-motor
Posted by Don Stauffer on Monday, March 29, 2010 8:28 AM

I see Zvezda has announced a new Fokker kit.  I have never built a Zvezda airplane model yet (just two ship kits- so-so quality) but I have the B787 on order so will get a chance to see kit quality before I order the Fokker. I WILL order it regardless, however, as there are not a lot of choices available.  Anyway, has anyone seen the Fokker kit yet?  Is it a repop of an earlier offering or new tooling?

No idea on the Fokker, but I have their 767 and TU 154 and they both are excellent kits.  As far as Im concerned they can pop any airliners they want and Id build them.

I got one of the Zvezda F VIII-3M kits today, with the Southern Cross markings.  It looks like new tooling to me, but I haven't compared it to the old Frog kit I have.  It is limited run but has very nice detail, some of the sprue gates are large enough that it is obviously a low pressure mold.

Thanks, John. I have just ordered it, along with the CMR Boeing 40B, which seems to have undergone a recent price reduction Smile

Don, apparently the Zvezda kit is the Frog mold.  Sorry to have misled you.  It looks pretty much like a Fokker Trimotor to me and the plastic looks very workable.  The engine nacelles will need some reshaping to be more round.  Apparently Valom has just issued a newer limited run kit which is pretty good, but in Spanish civil war markings for $35.00 or so..

Great!   I am picking up both the Fokker and the CMR Boeing 40B Saturday.  Can hardly wait!

The Frog kit came with a 1/48 Sir Charles Kingsford Smith figgie. Not a bad model, although getting the windscreen thing in was unsolvable to me.

Kind of disappointed though.
