727 build 1/144
Posted by ThaDude on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 9:58 PM

Hey everyone,

Now that i'm a veteran poster going on my second post, I'm starting this new thread for my build on my 727. This on will have pics and updates on it.

Here's a little background on it. Started in 1995, never finished it, found it in the attic and now want to complete it. It was originally going to be pianted in the braniff 3 scheme ( I still have the decals if anyone wants them, i'm not using them for this build). I'm either going to finish it in the eastern whisperjet scheme or delta widget. When i found it, the fuse put together, puttied and painted white and purple for the braniff paint job. I spent some time sanding it off. Basically waht i want to do is model it with the flaps and LE slats extended in the takeoff position.

Here are some pics of what i got so far

I'm also working on a c44-9w for you train buffs!

I've cut out rudder already, its been sanded and primered once here. need to make panel lines and more sanding and more primering.

Heres the braniff decals i found with it (yours for the taking if anyone wants them)

That's all i got so far. I'm going to try to keep this as updated as possible, it may slow going but i'll get it done!

If anyone has any suggestions or comments, I'm all eyes and ears.

Another issue i have is when i was originally buiding the plane i had taped the wings to paint and never did it but the tape was left on. Now when i try to peel the tape off, it won't peel off at all and I have been trying to scrape it off with a blade. Wondering if anyone has any ideas or tips, i thought about goo gone but wanted to see if anything else works better or if usng goo gone will be fine. I'll post pics of that later.

Goo Gone is a great product.  Ive used it to remove mask residue with acrylic, enamel and lacquer based paints.  Ive never had it attack the paint or leave any sort of residue.  Its good to have around and 1 bottle will last a longtime.

Dude, I would LOOOOOVE to have those Braniff decals. I'm hoping to eventually have a full Braniif collection. I'm working on two different jellybean 707s right now.

If you decide to go with the Delta widget paint scheme, let me know if I can be of any assistance.  I'm a mechanic for Delta, and used to be on the overhaul crew for the 727.Yes

Which 727 kit is that you are building?  I've heard the old airfix kit can be a challenge at times.
