Cathay Pacific 747-400BCF
Posted by 7474 on Sunday, May 23, 2010 8:55 AM

I've started working on my CX 747-400 BCF in the "Silver Bullet" livery. I've tried my hands at making my own decals and have done a pretty horrible job. Is anybody able to print them for me? I  have yet to find anyone who makes these decals. Thanks and here's a link to a airliners.net photo of what I want to build.

Wanted to share an update of my build. Yesterday was able to work a few hours, so I puttied the wings and horizontal stabs, start assembling the engines (will describe my method below) and am trying to get the glass blended in. Using Tamiya "Light" Gray in the rattle can to detect flaws. Once done, I'll gently sand it off, then apply Tamiya While Primer.

The method to make my engines seamless. I cut only one side in half, just aft of the locater pin so that I have a reference point where to glue the other have on. One locater pin was removed for ease of putting the fan blade in. I'll sand the inside seam and then paint it, install the painted fan blade, then the compressor/exhaust section and finally glue the other half of the engine on. Fill and blend the seam then install on the wing.

For my model, since it will be half Cathay Pacific Cargo and half Kalitta, I need two engine types. I have the Pratt & Whitney's as used on CX Cargo, but I need GE CF6s. If anyone has these engines and are willing to part with them (for a fee and shipping) I'm in need of them. I believe the Lufthansa 747-400 kit has the CF6s.

A friend of mine is actually one one of their pilots and as a modeler I offerred to replicate his plane long ago. The decals have stalled me as well.

I'll look forward to your solution.

I managed to finally get the new cockpit blended in and taken care of as well as the wings and stabs, but I put the build in the holding pattern until I can get my Falcon 10 built. But since the Falcon is in the paint stage, I'm thinking of getting back on this build. Try to find time to build when I can. I have a lot of kits that I'd like to build one per week.

This is being built for me as I hope to end up at Cathay one day flying the freighters, my dad is a 747 kalitta pilot, so this is where the inspiration came from.
