1/144 Airbus A330-Anyone know where they went????
Posted by jarhead_50_5.0 on Sunday, July 25, 2010 3:18 PM

Hello,

I'm working on building up a collection of airliners in 1/144 scale and have been purchasing decals as I find them.  What I really need is a 1/144 scale A330 kit.  I know Revell (germany) made one a while back, but for the life of me I can't find one anywhere in the states or even on eBay.  Suggestions on places to check or look?

Thanks in advance for your help or suggestions.

B17- thanks, but I checked there and they only have decals for the A330.  No kits listed.

Anyone know of any kind of marketplace or classified ads for modelers?

Jon: While I would agree that say a DC-10-30 has/had more charisma than the A330, Its a darn sight better than the "new" 787, which is already 2 years late.

Amazing, you ask for some help and guidance from people, trade a little friendly and good natured banter with a fellow modeler from "across the pond" and then you end up with someone getting all butt-hurt about the expression of an opinion when they werent even part of the conversation to start with.  Very helpful community indeed.

Or perhaps they just haven't heard of a little thing called the A380? Of course any day of the week I would say the 747 is still (in my opinion) the classic, standard setting and beautiful of the jumbo jets.  (and of course that opinion is the product of wayyyy too many visits to the flight deck as a kid.)

Hmm, Isn't that like a car that's been stored in a field for 2 years before getting to the dealers? It's still 'new' isn't it? Whistling

OOPs, my bad, have Boeing finished one?

Since large parts of the Boeing and the new Airbus's are 'plastic' maybe they should have posted in 'tools & techniques'  on how to glue the thing together. Stick out tongue

It would be easier to find a A340 kit and buy aftermarket A330 engines.  Maybe even cheaper.

Actually, I think they have two of them flying.

They also have production models coming down the line.. The actual delivery and certification dates are still moving around a lot. But yes, Boeing has had fully functional 787s for a while.

Maybe Boeing is where all the Tenax is going.

Jon: I think you might be right about the "plastic."  If I ever find out that Boeing and Airbus are just using CA glue, my days of using air travel will be done in a hurry.  Stick out tongue

9X19mm, You are the second person to suggest the A340-300 kit conversion and I quite like the idea, but I have spent copious amounts of time searching for the correct aftermarket engines.  Tired Hannats, airline hobby supply here in the States, ect.  I cannot find any of the TwoSix decal P&W 4000 engines I would need.  Plus I would worry about the engine placement on the wings as well, in some effort for accuracy.

Has anyone done an A340 to A330 conversion?  mabye post some pics? Big Smile

Well that brings even more bad news, the only A330 kit offered with PW 4000 engines is the LTU boxing.  $$$ sorry.  But atleast you will have a spare set of GE engines!

9x19mm did you mean that the only A340 with P&W 4000 engines is the LTU boxing or was it an A330 LTU boxing?

I know twosix had resin P&W 4000 engines but no one has any in stock and they won't answer me on if they will be releasing any more in the future.

I have tried searching for LTU boxings of either A340/A330 but no luck.  I'd be willing to pay the money for the kit, but no such luck.

The LTU boxing of the A330 comes with both PW and GE engines.  All other boxings come with only GE engines.  For Trent engines BRA.Z makes them.  LTU boxings go for like 70+ on ebay and rarely show up.   Also the A330 and A340 are the same kits with different engines.  Just dont use the center landing gear and dont drill holes in the wing bottoms for the #1 and #4 engines. Pretty straight forward.

If it ain't Boeing, I'm not going; especially on a "Scare"bus.
