WIP 1/48 Beechcraft Bonanza

This is a Minicraft kit that I have started on.

Most of the interior is completed, now it is onto the body of the craft where I have been adding epoxy putty and cleaning up panel lines.

I still have to cut new glass for it and working on fitting a windsheild that I have cut from a piece of clear packaging to obtain the compount curves that it has.

I've been using Modeller's of Japan bare metal foil and a few Detail Master PE products.

The landing lights were cut in with a file to the leading edge of the wings, a glass jewel glued in and then filled with epoxy. This was the first attempt at such a thing, and discovered everything went clear and the only thing visible was the reflector on back of the jewel. Interesting result. I've also made clear epoxy wing tip light housings.

The display base has a brass tube installed for a rod to the plane and is filled with blue clay and then sealed with epoxy and sanded flat. The exterior was sprayed with texture paint. The badge details were covered with chrome foil, painted and then clear epoxy poured over it and left to cure. Polished up nice. All this has been experimentation on my part and so far not too bad. Outstanding work. I have one of these kits on the shelf. Plan on building the military version. Ever heard of a QU-22?

Hi, Thanks Hawkeye.

No, I have never run across any pics of one ever, and I've done a lot of combing on this plane.  I would be interested in checking one out.

What was its purpose?

It was supposed to be a drone to fly above the Ho Chi Minh trail and relay the info from sound detectors. The engine kept overheating and so a pilot had to fly/ride in it. His only duties were to take off and land the plane. Oh, and that landing was often deadstick when the engine conked out. It was said to be one of the pilots' least favorite missions for some reason ????? The plane was modified with a standard tail and an odd looking hump above and behind the engine housing a generator for all the electronics. Gee, I wonder why the engine overheated? There is a surviving example of it at the Air Force Museum.

I just had a look at google images and using the search term "qu-22 drone", I got quite a few

pictures of the beast.

The Bonanza's nickname was "The V-tailed doctor killer"

Thanks, that walkaround didn't come up the first time I looked. That has exactly what I need.
