When you're spending that much on an aircraft, cutting down on the cost (labor) to paint complex schemes makes sense as a way to save a few Yen.

I like the old JAL logo on the tail, but, to me at least, it looks like another white whale. Doesn't stand out on the apron like the current red tail does. But I'm a sucker for anything that breaks the mold. Braniff jelly bean, anyone?

Cheers, Aaron

Just for that you have to sit in the back, in a seat with no leg room and no in flight snacks, your luggage misrouted and sitting between a passenger who needs two seats and a mom with a fussy infant.

Sounds like every flight I've ever been on!

Yet the pay for the people up front who are responsible from getting everyone in the back from A to B safely, make less than a cashier at Home Depot.

Wouldn't it be cheaper (labor wise) to paint part of a circle on the tail, then a crane.  To get the crane the paint shop crew will have to mask the entire tail, then cut out the shape of the crane, then paint it.  To get the red circle, cover up just the lower half of the tail and then spray the red.  Done painting in less time than it takes to even cut out the crane. just my 2 cents

Hey 7474, I just realized you were being sarcastic..

If the news was so old.. How come I was reading it in the paper of that day..

Not sure how you could have seen that image before the Japanese media?

I know that the news of changing to the crane is old news. But to see it in the flesh was not, and so that picture in the paper was taken at the unveiling!

So unless you were part of the JAL design team. The news is not old...

After the devastating occurrence in Japan, the country becomes gloomy. The earthquake and tsunami in Japan has brought on ripples in the air travel industry, among other sectors, inducing Delta Air Lines to reduce service to Japan. I found this here: Delta Air Lines reduces services to Japan as fuel prices rise Airlines have to take the measure of reducing service there, as the disasters have caused demand to plummet. Airlines worldwide are also feeling the pinch of increasing costs of jet fuel.

Pfffttt ... airlines use any excuse to jack up ticket prices. Flying to Europe this summer magically got $300-500 more expensive because of the wars in Libya, et. al. ... No

Does anyone make decals for these planes like the red Quantas with the Aborigine livery or the Wiener Philharmoniker livery on their Airbus A340? Or the Illinois or Florida or any other of those cool colorful paint jobs?  These would be cool.  I have the 1/400 scale miniatures of many of these planes but I would like to try making one myself in 1/144 or so.Captain
