Looks great -both model and diorama.

Yeah, I'd like to see a decent Bleriot in almost any scale by a good company such as Tamiya.  Pre-WW1 planes are super-scarce, don't know why.  There are a zillion WW2 fighter planes out there, and the only current "pioneer" kit I am aware of is the re-issue of the RM box-scale Wright Flyer.

That being said, I still love those Pyro (or whatever other brand is on them) kits- have built several and still have a couple in the queue.  Just wish there were better aftermarket wire wheels available for them. Yeah, TM has WW1 spoke kits available, but they are not the easiest to use, you have to use the kit rims, and the spoke sets may or may not fit very well, and cutting the spoke area out of the rims is a PITA.

The latest issue of Sport Aviation, the magazine of the Experimental Aircraft Association, features a replica Bleriot XI that members have constructed for the EAA museum in Oshkosh.  Several excellent pics.  The replica features the Anzani engine and looks quite authentic.  Seems to me the pics would be great scale documentation for a model.

Brings up a problem with building planes of that era- the wire wheels.  Yeah, Tom's makes a PE spoke set, but the set is very hard to use. One must cut out the center of the wheels and glue the spokes in the cutout area- not the easiest thing to do.  We need a set that includes rims and tires- maybe a multi-media set with the spokes and rims as PE, the tires as resin.  I have several of the old Pyro/whatever kits on my shelves because I am reluctant to tackle the wheels.

Presuming the Pyro wheels are not already clear plastic, would casting a copy of the Pyro wheels in clear resin be an acceptable alternative ?

Not an option for contests, but it might look a bit better than opaque wheels even though painting the molded "wires" and "tire / rim " would be difficult for any but the youngest eyes..
