Fly Fishing C-172
Posted by B17Pilot on Saturday, July 30, 2011 11:38 PM

1/48 Minicraft Cessna C-172 on floats. The water is acrylic gel. The figure is modified from one that comes in the Monogram B-17 kit. Scratch built the cooler and fishing pole, as well as the radio headset on the front seat.

Here's the cooler behind the door:

And the headset and map:

Nice! Love the addition of the fisherman, and the water looks great.

Looks great!

I have just ordered the land version of the Minicraft 172 from Squadron.  Hope it turns out as nice!

I’ve got a float plane in my stash that is all tingly about now. Great work!

begin picking nits " he is NOT fly fishing, the reel would be at the end of the rod, looks like bait or spin cast..." end picking nits.Wink

I guess that is not much to complain about. Love the job and the scratch stuff, that cooler looks really good

Because this whole thing is a pun on "fly fishing." He flew to the lake and is fishing, hence "Fly Fishing," get it?  Just a little humor in modeling!

Thanks, it was my first time scratching things. I've only done modifications or replacement parts before this.  Got to start some where, right?

I notice that, like any good fisherman, he has kept his map partially hidden so nobody else can find his preferred spot!

Nice work!  I've done that one, too.  It was a fun little kit.  I didn't put it in a diorama (don't have room).  I did detail the engine compartment a bit, so the cowl can be pulled off, and added some paint details to the cockpit.  I did, though, simplify the paint job significantly.  An initial attempt at adding the stripes down the side failed miserably, and I was itching to move on.  It's still a nice display in my library.
