More civil fun (from ICM this time)

   My unrealistic expectations of civil aircraft modeling took a lot of the fun away so I started building WW2 airplanes.  There is no shortage of subject matter and the kits continue to improve.  Even a lot of the older models are still available at reasonable prices.  I still have my "civil" moments so I went to an airliner web site last week ready to do damage to my credit card.  What I found was that 75% of the kits were listed as "sold out".  I don"t know if  they are hard to get or out of production, but it was disappointing.  I understand the economics arguement, but I also remember a lot of people thought Hasegawa was taking a big risk when they started putting out quality WW2 fighters when jets were all the rag  (waaay back in the 80's), and look what that led to.  This is sour grapes and I need to shut-up.  Zvezda  is raising the bar and maybe better days are ahead.  I can a least dream of 200 scale Airbus heavies to keep my way too many 747's company.  Arron, on a personal note, I grew up in Papua New Guinea and got to visit Australia a few times.  Of course it has been a "few" years so all I truely remember are pretty women and beautiful beaches.

I here you, PNGbrat ... sometimes it's just a matter of Patience is Rewarded. Back when I got bitten by the DC-9 bug after seeing the We Are Marshall movie, the only plastic kit in the correct version was the olddddddd Airfix one, which forced me to go after it on Evilbay. I ended up getting two, one as a testbed since I'd never built an airliner (or any civilian aircraft, for that matter), and one hopefully to represent the "final" version.

Now, of course, there are several choices, in several materials. Oh well!

I remember giving up on airliners at one point, too, after I tried hand-brishing gloss white. Ick!

But I couldn't ever give it up entirely. And I'm glad I stuck with it because the kits we are seeing today are much better. So many new kits of old and new subjects that constantly raise the bar.

BTW, I have an Airfix Airbus with decals for Air Niugini's bird of paradise scheme, an aircraft I saw a lot of in Brisbane in the '80s.

Woo-hoo!  Scratch another one off my kit wish list!  I am happy that the canard can be modeled in the deployed position, as it makes the Tu-144 look really unique.  I am also glad that I didn't buy the horribly expensive BraZ resin kit.

Anyone know about when to expect this kit to hit the shelves?

I don't have a specific date, but stuff is pretty quick to appear after it shows up on the front page at ICM's website. I'm guessing sometime in the next couple months.

Now I'll have to build the Concorde in the stash.

Ditto here.

Are you going to do any corrections to the Concorde?  There was a really good article in Replic on how to fix up the Revell kit.  Lots of work, but the model in the article looked fantastic.  Damn those French modelers!

Will be eagerly awaiting the ICM Concordski.
