assistance in finding airliner kits

yep the wings are white but fear not, i stripped the paint succesfuly and went and got some primer and now all is well (well as good as sprays get in the hands of a begginer), in the future i will always prime first. you can check out my progress so far in the thread "revell a320 'lufthansa' "

You should use a white primer first before the TS-26. Are you sure the Lufthansa wings are white though?

hi again guys

my kit arived about 4 days ago but due to tchnical difficulties i am unable to upload photos at this time. just one qustion for today though, as i am only 16 and relitivly new to modeling (only a few years) i don't yet own an air brush and for the past year i've been using tamiya spray cans. whilst i was spaying the wings on my model white (ts-26 spray can) i found that it took about 5+ coats until you couldn't see the small amounts of putty underneath, the exesive amount of coats has led to the paint (high gloss) being not entirly smooth when held up to a light and any reflection seems to be a bit skatered. it not that bad but it is ugly and is there any way to revers this or make it less obvious.

ok great thanks guys. the links you gave me are quite helpfull, i think though i am going to just stick with the lufthansa decals though, i had a look at the jetstar and tiger airways decal but decided against them (A) because i simply like the lufthansa colour scheme anyway and (B) because they both use a320s with the IAE powerplant whilst the kit comes with CFM. but anyway thanks again guys those links have opened a whole new insite for me and have given me plenty of ideas for future builds.

i will continue to update the build once the kit has arived.

You may be able to get Jetstar decals for your A320 from here: http://www.hawkeyemodels.com.au/Site.htm

Also, bear in mind that not all A320s are equal.  Some have the CFM engines and some have the IAE engines.  The Lufthansa A320s have the CFM engines I believe.  This isn't an issue if you plan on using the Lufthansa decals but if you were planning on using AM decals for a different airline be sure that that airline uses the same engines.

Every one forgot about the airliners the Rare-Planes issued as vacuformed. I recently aquired the DC-4 and L1049 Constellation kits. Both are 1/72 scale.

ok thanks guys, your links and other advice helped alot. i have just bought a luftansa a320 by revell (kit number 04267) wich should be here in a few weeks (comeing from UK to AUS) so when it does arive i will probaly post some progress pics. Any advice on the kit i'm getting would be very much appreciated.

and if at all possible could anyone please post some pics of the top of the wings on lufthansa's a320s, i can't really find many pics where you get a good veiw of them from above.

Airliners are typical not something kitted in 1:72 because of their size. The last 1/72 airliners were produced decades ago by Aurora and are hard to find and when you do...expensive!

 

Revell made A320s in 1:144, which is the most popular airliner scale.

This is true for contemporary airliners.  However, older ones, which were smaller, are available in 1:72.  Heller made a DC-6 and a Connie in 1:72- they were huge.  Anything older than a DC-3 is okay in 1:72 and there are quite a few available.  Airfix and Revell of Germany both have some older airliners, especially German and British.  Few older US kits in styrene- you have to go to resin for older ones.

You can start with a basic aircraft of the series and do some cutting and splicing to make other variants. There are some aftermarket companies producing conversions...but again there are not many.

Minicraft makes a 1/144 777-200 while Hasegawa makes 1/200 777-200s and -300s.  The Minicraft offerings include decals for some different American airlines and the Hasegawa includes mostly JAL and ANA decals.

Finding AM decals is not a problem at all.  Are you looking for Qantas decals?

The only A-380 I know of is the 1/144 Revell offering and I don't think I've ever seen a 1/72 A-320.
